Choosing the Right Miniature Display Stand

What is a miniature display stand?

A miniature display stand is a tiered display system that raises painted models into clear rows so each miniature is easier to see, photograph, organise, and enjoy. WarSplay™ stands are designed for tabletop miniatures, wargaming armies, RPG models, painted collectibles, and display cabinet setups.

Which WarSplay stand should I buy?

If you are displaying standard infantry miniatures on 25mm to 32mm bases, WarSplay Classic is usually the best choice. If you are displaying larger heroes, monsters, vehicles, or centrepiece models on 40mm to 80mm bases, choose WarSplay Hero. If you are unsure, check our Size Guide & Comparison.

Are WarSplay stands compatible with Warhammer 40,000®, Dungeons & Dragons®, and other tabletop miniatures?

Yes. WarSplay stands are used to display tabletop miniatures, wargaming armies, and other painted collectible models on shelves, desks, and inside display cabinets. Our modular systems are designed for physical compatibility with miniatures from Warhammer 40,000®, Dungeons & Dragons®, and most standard 28mm–32mm ranges.

What problem do WarSplay stands solve?

WarSplay stands help turn crowded shelves, cluttered hobby desks, and foam-case storage into clear tiered displays. The raised rows make back-line models visible, improve shelf organisation, reduce wasted cabinet depth, and make painted miniatures easier to view and photograph.

Are WarSplay stands a good gift for a miniature painter or wargamer?

Yes. WarSplay stands make a practical gift for miniature painters, wargamers, collectors, and tabletop hobbyists because they help display finished models rather than leaving them hidden in foam trays or storage boxes. They are especially useful for anyone who has painted miniatures they are proud of but does not yet have a clean display setup.

Product & Compatibility

What base sizes do your display stands fit?

Our modular display system covers a wide range of tabletop collections. WarSplay Classic stands securely hold standard 25mm to 32mm infantry bases and are suitable for many popular 28mm–32mm tabletop miniature systems, including compatible miniatures from Warhammer 40,000®. For larger models, our Hero stands accommodate bases from 40mm up to 80mm, making them ideal for centrepiece monsters, heroes, larger RPG models, and heavy vehicles.

Are WarSplay stands suitable for 28mm and 32mm miniatures?

Yes. WarSplay Classic is designed around common 28mm–32mm tabletop miniature collections and standard infantry base sizes. It is a strong choice for customers looking for a 32mm miniature display stand, a modular miniature stand, or a clean way to organise painted infantry units.

Will these fit in my IKEA® DETOLF® or IKEA® BILLY® bookcase?

Yes. Our flat-edged interlocking design is engineered to maximise shelf space and can be used with IKEA® DETOLF® and IKEA® BILLY® display furniture, allowing you to create tiered, stadium-seating setups without wasting depth.

Are WarSplay stands cabinet-ready?

Yes. WarSplay stands are designed to work well on shelves, desks, and inside display cabinets. The tiered layout helps make better use of vertical space, while the matte black finish keeps attention on the miniatures rather than the stand itself.

How does the modular system work?

Every WarSplay™ unit features a seamless interlocking base. You can connect multiple stands side-by-side to build a wider display wall, expand a cabinet shelf, or create a custom exhibition layout that grows with your collection.

Do I need to assemble or glue the stands?

No. All WarSplay™ modules arrive fully assembled and ready to use straight out of the box. No superglue, clipping, tools, or snapping fragile tabs required.

Are these 3D printed?

Yes. Every stand is manufactured in-house at our dedicated 6-printer UK farm. We use premium materials with a matte black finish to reduce glare, helping your painted miniatures remain the focus for shelves, cabinets, and desk photography.

Why is the matte black finish useful?

The matte black finish helps reduce visual distraction and harsh reflections. This makes WarSplay useful for painters and collectors who want an anti-glare miniature display stand that keeps attention on the models, paintwork, bases, and army layout.

Can I magnetise my models to the stands?

Absolutely. You can attach ferrous sheets to our tiers. Combined with N52 Neodymium magnets under your bases, your models will snap securely into place. Read our How to Magnetise WarSplay guide for step-by-step instructions.

Can I use WarSplay for a full army display?

Yes. WarSplay stands are modular, so you can connect multiple units to create larger tiered displays for squads, units, armies, and growing miniature collections. This is useful for hobbyists who want a display shelf that can expand over time rather than a fixed one-size layout.

Is WarSplay a display stand or a display case?

WarSplay is an open miniature display stand system, not an enclosed display case. It is designed for visibility, organisation, modular expansion, cabinet use, and easy access to your models. If you need full dust protection, an enclosed acrylic case may be more suitable.

How does WarSplay compare to traditional acrylic cases?

Acrylic display cases can be useful when full enclosure and dust protection are the priority, but they can also be expensive, reflective, and harder to scale. WarSplay provides a durable, anti-glare, modular open-stand alternative for hobbyists who want better visibility, easier access, and expandable shelf organisation.

How do I stop miniatures gathering dust on an open stand?

While open stands do not block dust entirely, maintenance is simple. Use a soft, anti-static makeup brush or hobby dusting brush to gently sweep the tiered rows. Avoid harsh chemicals, soaking, or abrasive cleaning tools.
