Blubber Cove Skull Aquarium Cave – Gothic Fish Tank Decor & Shrimp Hide

The Blubber Cove Skull Aquarium Cave is a sculpted skull-shaped hide for aquascapers who want their tank decor to double as a focal point. Designed for gothic, fantasy and Halloween-themed aquariums — but engineered to the same fish-safety standard as the rest of our cave range. Smooth interior, snag-free edges, 3D-printed in the UK from aquarium-safe PETG. Looks spooky, feels safe.

Gothic decor that's actually fish-safe

Most novelty fish tank decor is painted resin imported in bulk. Paint chips, resin leaches, dyes affect water chemistry — fine for a Halloween display, not fine for a betta. This skull cave is sculpted from solid aquarium-safe PETG with no paint, no glue, and no surface treatments. Suitable for permanent tank use, not just seasonal.

Features

  • Sculpted skull design — bold focal point for gothic, fantasy or Halloween aquascapes
  • Functional hide — interior shelters bettas, shrimp, corydoras and bottom-dwellers
  • Smooth snag-free interior — safe for delicate fins and shrimp moults
  • 3D-printed in the UK from aquarium-safe PETG plastic
  • No paint, no glue, no chemical leaching — safe for permanent use, not just seasonal
  • Stable base — sits flush on sand, gravel or bare-bottom

Frequently asked questions

Is it actually safe for fish, or is it just a decoration?

Both — it's a working fish-safe hide. The interior is smooth and rounded so fins won't snag, and PETG is the same plastic used in food-grade containers. It's inert in freshwater and won't leach paint, dyes or chemicals like painted resin novelty decor often does.

Can I leave it in the tank permanently?

Yes. It's designed for permanent use, not just seasonal display. The PETG won't degrade in water and the print is structurally solid.

Will my betta or shrimp actually use it?

Yes — bettas love enclosed hides for resting, and shrimp colonise the textured surfaces for grazing. The skull's eye sockets and mouth opening give multiple entry points so fish can swim through.

Is it suitable for a Halloween tank?

Yes — it's a popular choice for October/November themed setups. Unlike cheap seasonal decor, it's safe for permanent use afterwards, so you're not throwing it out in November.

Does it work in a planted tank?

Yes. Pair with java fern, anubias, cryptocoryne and dark substrate for full gothic-aquascape effect. The white skull contrasts beautifully against dark planted backgrounds.

How do I clean it?

Rinse in tank water during your weekly water change. For algae build-up, use an aquarium-safe brush. Never use soap, detergent or bleach — PETG is inert but soap residue can harm fish.
